The holiday season is just around the corner, so what better way to commemorate it than with a photoshoot? What I personally love about this time is the carefree and heartwarming moments we experience with our close-knit families and friends.
In terms of photography, though, holiday shoots can be a bit mundane – people generally dress in Christmassy attire, pose with their closest ones, and that’s it! While I’m not saying that this is a bad thing, I want you to take the time and think outside the box for a moment. Why not have a shoot with a unique theme, tradition, or activity in mind? Don’t know where to start? Here are some holiday photography ideas for you to consider this year!
Cutting down and Decorating The Christmas Tree
One of my favorite things about Christmas is decorating our tree. This little ritual has a special place in my heart – my family, along with my furballs; gather around it and put up all the pretty ornaments. That being said, why not make a session out of it? It’s a great way to make your Christmas card photos look cheerful and unique! Even if you’re camera shy, you won’t feel the lens peering into you – your only job is to focus on decorating and having a great time!
Baking Cookies With Your Family
I bet you can almost feel the scent of freshly made cookies. Just thinking about it makes my taste buds tingle! If you’re looking for family holiday picture ideas, I suggest having a shoot while you bake cookies with your closest ones. Just picture it – jazzy Christmas songs, cozy outfits, and the delicious taste of cookies throughout the entire day. Not only will the kids love it, but you will look super sweet with some flour on your face!
All Aboard The Polar Express!
I think there’s one thing that everyone can agree upon – there’s nothing better than watching Christmas movies during the holiday season. One of my favorite ones is The Polar Express! In my opinion, it shows the joy of Christmas and how life can be brilliant if we just believe. And, it can be a great source of holiday photography ideas! Grab your round-trip tickets, put on your comfy clothes, and hop aboard! I promise that Santa’s going to love those Christmas card photos.
Have Santa Come To Town!
Speaking of Santa, he can also drop off some family holiday picture ideas. Have someone dress up as one (or you could hire one), have them knock at your door, and surprise your kids – they will be staring in awe. Have Santa sit down for a photo or two, I guarantee the images will look incredibly good! You can also give your kids some bragging rights – they’ll have proof they’ve met Santa.
There are so many ideas you can go for, just get creative with your session. I promise, as you browse through most of the photos, you will appreciate how special it is to have genuine family warmth and connection captured. Plus, you’ll love them so much you’ll end up making these photoshoots an annual thing – as you should!
