PRESERVE THE MOMENTS THAT MATTER
WITH FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY THAT CELEBRATES WHO YOU ARE
Life is a collection of moments, each one holding its own special story. From the grand milestones to the quiet, everyday moments, they all weave together to tell the tale of who you are as a family. It’s in the laughter over bubble baths, the warmth of sticky fingers holding onto yours, the comfort of reading stories together, and the soothing kisses on scraped knees. These are the moments that hold the most magic — unscripted, authentic, and uniquely yours. Imagine family photos that don’t ask for anything but your true selves — no poses, no forced smiles — just the pure, joyful beauty of being together. As a Rochester, NY family documentary photographer, I let your story unfold naturally and capture the love, connection, laughter, and simple joy of life in all its unpolished beauty.
Family Photography FAQs
1. What is your photography style?
I specialize in documentary family photography, which captures authentic, candid moments as they naturally unfold. My approach allows your family’s unique personalities and connections to shine through in every image, preserving memories in their truest form.
2. How should we prepare for our session?
There’s really no need to prepare! The goal of a family documentary session is to capture a genuine day in your life. Simply dress comfortably and be yourselves. If you’d like, you can think of activities that are meaningful to your family, as those moments often make the best memories to photograph.
3. What if my children are uncooperative during the session?
Kids will be kids, and I’ve seen it all! The beauty of documentary family sessions is that your children are in familiar surroundings, wearing clothes they’re comfortable in, and free to be their authentic, quirky selves. Life is full of emotions and an uncooperative or shy moment is just a part of that; capturing who they are at that moment in time. It’s all part of the story we’re telling!
4. Can we include pets in our photos?
Absolutely! Pets are beloved members of the family, and I never limit who can be part of the session. This is about capturing your family’s story, and if that includes your furry friends, then let’s make it happen.
5. How long does a typical session last?
Sessions typically last between 2 to 4 hours, depending on the package you choose. This allows everyone plenty of time to adjust to me being there with my camera and to feel comfortable in front of the lens, so you can truly be yourselves.
6. When is the best time for a family photo session?
The beauty of documentary family photography is that there’s no specific “best” time — anytime is perfect for capturing your family’s story. This style focuses on the meaningful, unique moments that define your family, and those moments aren’t limited by time. As a documentary family photographer, I’m experienced in working with various lighting conditions to ensure your photos turn out beautifully, no matter when the session takes place.
7. What should we wear for the session?
Wear whatever feels right for you! Clothing is a personal expression, and documentary photography is all about capturing the authentic you. If your child wants to wear a tutu and rain boots, let’s make it happen! (My son once wore slippers everywhere, and my daughter had a phase where she only wore a cat winter hat —those were some of my favorite memories to capture.) Ultimately, comfort is key, so choose clothes that let you move freely and feel at ease.
8. How and when will we receive our photos?
After your session, I carefully select and edit the best images. You can expect to receive your photos within 4-6 weeks, delivered through an online gallery following a Zoom reveal session.
9. Do you offer prints or albums?
Yes! I’m a huge believer in the power of physical photographs. There’s something truly special about holding an album in your hands and sharing it with your kids and family. I offer a variety of high-quality prints and custom-designed albums to beautifully showcase your family’s memories. We can go over the options during our consultation or after your session.
10. What is your booking and cancellation policy?
To reserve your session, a deposit is required. If you need to reschedule or cancel, please give at least 48 hours’ notice. Cancellations made within 48 hours may incur a fee.
